A gift............for me!

I donated this session as a gift for this family. but really it turned into a gift for me!  Meet little A.  She loves to dance, and she loooooooves her cars.

Her swing brings her such joy.

And she is very clear about her desires.  And most parents reading this are nodding their heads knowing all about kids who are "clear"- but for little A.'s parents even the simple act of being clear about her needs is a huge deal for this kiddo.  Miss A is a special kid- in the truest sense of the word.

Isn't she a beauty!

I feel so honored that this family allowed me a peek into their daughters life- it was such a gift for me.  Thank you!

Green thought for the day

Every single household that we own, or bring into our home, has an impact on out environment and on our lives.

Doula and mom-to-be

This beautiful gal is a part-time Doula and it was great getting to know her.  This is her first baby and she and her DH are sooooo excited to meet this little one.  They are not finding out if baby is a boy or a girl (I  LOVE that) but I am thinking boy- but like I said- who knows!

Just look at these cute freckles!

Yesterday was Earth Day

I was busy photographing a beautiful pregnant mama then running around to other appointments so I missed posting about Earth Day.

Happy Earth Day (a day late!)

Here are a couple of Super Simple Tips to help care for the Earth and save some cash!.

1.  All things electrical draw power even when turned off- so, plug all your electrical stuff into power strips/ surge supressors and turn the power strip off each night.  Probably wouldn't recommend doing this for your refrigerator ;) but for your computer printers, cell phone chargers, etc- this is a great tip.

2. Use reusable cloth bags for your groceries- easy peasy.

3. When doing craft projects- think recycled!  We keep paper that comes into the house in a basket for drawing projects. Here are some other fun craft ideas: Recycled Crafts

4.  Select products that are not over packaged- especially when it comes to birthday and holiday presents.

5.  Have your kids join EPA Enviromental Kids Club

Eco Friendly Book- Growing Up Green

I have just added this book to my resource list for my Doula clients.

Growing Up Green  by Deirde Imus.  It is a great resource full of eco friendly and healthy living tips.  Of course I wish that there was *more* about Doulas ;) but that is not the focus of the book.  It is a quick read that covers everything from healthy eating while pregnant, to using sustainable products in your baby's room to purchasing green school supplies.  There are some yummy kid friendly recipes too.  Pick it up at your local book store!

Bellies Birth and Babies & May is For Mothers update

Wow- we had a GREAT turn out last night at our Bellies Birth and Babies Spring Expo.  It was wonderful meeting so many beautiful pregnant families!  Our next Bellies Birth and Babies Expo will be on July 15th.  Check back here for more info.  We also had the chance to honor Stacy Thompson who started what became Birth Network of Santa Cruz all those many years ago- Stacy we appreciate you!

Well, I hope that you all survived tax day . Big heavy sigh.  *sheds a little tear*

But on a happier note my May is For Mothers event is rolling along!  This is a fund raiser for Jacob's Heart- a local organization that works with kids who have cancer.  From every limited edition session that is scheduled, I will be donating pre-paid gasoline cards to the families so that this crazy increase in fuel prices wont effect these families quite as much as they are traveling to Stanford to receive treatment for their kids.  May 20th is filling quickly and other days are beginning to fill.  Call soon to schedule!

Hey Locals- are you misbehaving?

We were out celebrating a birthday last night and saw a car with a license plate that really made us laugh.  It read "misbehaving"  but was spelled creatively.  So if you are the owner of that car and can correctly identify both the type of car and how the license plate was spelled- I would love to gift you a session in my May is For Mothers fund raiser- just for making us laugh!  So call or email me soon as sessions are already starting to fill!

Having a ball

It was so great seeing these boys again.  I have had the pleasure of photographing these kids over the last few years and it is so wonderful watching them grow.  The boys were busy playing ball, playing in the garden, and playing with sticks.

This is the kid of a million faces.

And this little guy- he was so fun- his hands were full of sticks and balls and dirt- he is a great little guy.  (And I vote for not cutting his hair ;) )

Here is a fun action shot of an awesome b-ball game- with high scores, getting the ball from the other guys, and a few fantastic assists from dad.
